So, while I've planned out every room and gotten myself mentally prepared to make over the whole apartment, Justin and I have decided to put more of our resources into saving so that we can start house hunting at the end of the this summer. So, my priorities have changed a bit for the apartment. I am still going to re-organize and decorate, I will just put more of my effort into items I can take with me, rather then painting walls, with one exception.
The Bathroom:
I was bathing the little lady one day and stewing over how much I hated the wallpaper in my bathroom. It was dated and ugly. I started ripping down loose pieces and was excited at how easily it was coming off. I didn't check the other not-loose areas. That weekend I spent some time ripping down what I could, then resolved to paint over the rest. Later that week I bought paint and went to town. I was in such a hurry to get rid of that awful wallpaper that I couldn't be bothered to tape. It looks awful.
Originally this was at the bottom of my list, it looks terrible, but isn't as important as the bigger areas in our space. Now that we may be moving this year, and I'm proceeding with my plan at a slower pace then I had anticipated, it is going to be my first job.
Plan:
Scrape the walls to get all of the crud off
Paint the ceiling and trim - Vanilla / off white
Paint the walls - blue
(tape everything along the way!)
Paint the shelves over the toilet
Install better "behind the door" hooks
Build a small square table for beside the sink storage
Shopping List:
Vanilla paint
Painter's Tape
Rustoleum Vintage White paint for metal (shelves)
Hooks
Wood filler
Wood screws
Wood Glue

On Hand:
Sponge brushes (my fave)
Blue Paint (I might mix in some vanilla paint to lighten it up a bit, it's a tad bright)

Intro
We moved into this apartment building about 4 years ago. Our first apartment was a smaller 2 bedroom, and we loved it.
After a year or so went by we got a pretty big surprise:
After a year or so went by we got a pretty big surprise:
As soon as we knew she was on her way we got onto a waiting list for a bigger apartment in the same building. We also started saving and planning to buy a house. Since we only planned to live in our apartment for a short time I didn't paint or decorate or spend much time thinking about where to put furniture. The other part of that is we moved into this apartment when our little lady was 6 months old and I returned to work the week after we moved, the last thing I cared about was how it looked.
Over the years plans have changed, I worked part time to spend more time with my girl and I took a lower paying job in order to stay in a department (and job) that I loved - I have a great Monday - Friday schedule, I'm off on holidays, and I get 3 weeks of vacation. Not to mention my boss totally understands what it's like to have young kids, so she is flexible when she can be. So, while we are still working towards buying a house, those plans have been put off and we likely won't start looking soon.
So once we kind of acknowledged (out loud) that we are not buying a house this spring or in the near future I started to look around at our apartment. It's beautiful, and we've really cluttered it up with all of our stuff and poor organizing. Also - the dining room is light pink and it drives me crazy. It's time for a total over haul. My new years resolution is to take a room at a time and do every last detail myself. Paint the walls, make or re finish the furniture, make the decorations, and make it ours.
I read a lot of craft / diy blogs, so I may have the false confidence to think this won't be to tough, just time consuming.
I guess we'll find out together.
